History

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila painting, is a traditional art form that originated in the Mithila region of Bihar, India, in the 6th century CE, and has been passed down from generation to generation through the women of the region.

Method

Madhubani paintings are known for their intricate designs and vibrant colors, they are created using natural pigments and dyes, and the designs are typically drawn with a bamboo stick or a brush. Madhubani art is traditionally created on handmade paper, cloth, or even walls, and are characterized by their bold outlines and flat, two-dimensional quality.

Cultural Significance

The paintings often depict scenes from Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life. The designs are usually symmetrical and feature intricate patterns, such as flowers, birds, and geometric shapes.
